Rusheon Middle School in Bossier City held a 9/11 memorial service this morning to remember those who lost their lives 10 years ago.

The ceremony was hosted by school principal Harriet Johnson and was attended by law enforcement officers from the Bossier Sheriff’s Department, Bossier City Police Department and Louisiana State Police, along with firefighters from the Bossier City Fire Department and members of the military. The Bossier Sheriff’s Young Marines folded the American flag during the ceremony in the gym, and later hoisted the flag on the school’s flagpole.

The ceremony included a time of prayer by Dep. Greg Ebard, school resource officer, a special reading about the significance of September 11th by 7th grader Michael Stout, and singing of "Amazing Grace" by teacher Kate Hedges, accompanied by fellow teacher David Jankowski on the violin.

Students later released balloons into the air attached with messages of reflection about 9/11.
