Wow, those little pooches are fast! That's the main thing you can say about the Wiener Dog Races at Harrah's Louisiana Downs on Labor Day.

This was my first Wiener Dog experience at the racetrack, and I brought my daughter out to see all the adorable doggies. But there were more breeds present than just Dachshunds. I can't name them all, of course, but we saw at least one poodle (and what a cutie! Take a look at her photo below) and twin Scotties.

I didn't hang around to find out which pooch won the big prize. My daughter was soaking wet from the waterslide that was set up in the family area, so I had to finish getting her dried off. But I did hear last year's winner "Ollie" came out ahead again this time around. We really enjoyed seeing so many well-behaved dogs in one place. And the competitors -- speedy!

The races were the big kick-off to Super Derby 35 this coming Saturday, and raised money for Robinson's Rescue, our low-cost spay and neuter facility.
