2013 Emmy Nominations: Netflix and ‘House of Cards’ Have Officially Entered the Fray

Netflix

The 2013 Emmy nominations have arrived and at first glance, it’s more of the same. Of course ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Homeland‘ and ‘Downton Abbey‘ seem to be dominating the drama category! Of course ‘30 Rock,’ ‘Louie‘ and ‘Veep‘ are contenders in the comedy category! However, the big surprise with this year’s nominations is that one of the most nominated shows wasn’t even on TV at all.

Netflix’s ‘House of Cards‘ stood toe-to-toe with the big players, taking the spot usually reserved for HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire.’ In addition to being nominated for Best Drama series, the online-only show also grabbed nods for both of its leading performances, editing, cinematography, music and writing. Netflix’s other big show, the revived ‘Arrested Development,’ didn’t do quite as well, but you don’t shrug off a major acting nomination and a handful of technical nods.

Nominations we’re happy to see: Elisabeth Moss, nominated twice for ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Top of the Lake.’ The great Jonathan Banks, being honored for his incredible work on ‘Breaking Bad.’ Louis C.K. continuing to get props for his experimental and fresh work on ‘Louie.’ Emilia Clarke joining Peter Dinklage as a nominated actor for ‘Game of Thrones.’

Check out the major nominations below. What do you think? What got snubbed? What are you happy for? You can check out the rest of the nominations right here.
