With the (not so) stunning news that Les Miles is out as head football coach at LSU, here are ten things you should know about the Tigers interim boss, Ed Orgeron.

1) He's full-blooded Cajun. Orgeron is a native of Larose, born in that tiny Louisiana town in 1961.

2) Orgeron attended South Lafourche High School in Galliano. His teammates there included ex-NFL star Bobby Hebert.

3) He originally signed to play at LSU, but transferred after his freshman year.

4) He has connections to our part of the state. He left LSU to attend Northwestern in Natchitoches, where he played defensive line from 1981 to 1984, and was an assistant coach there, too.

5) He has NFL experience. He was defensive line coach for the Saints in 2008.

6) Experience (or lack of) is not a factor. Orgeron has coached at major colleges, including Arkansas, Miami, Syracuse, USC and Tennessee.

7) Of all his coaching jobs, he's only had two that lasted five consecutive years or longer: Miami from 1988 to 1992 and USC from 1998 to 2004.

8) Orgeron has been part of two national championship teams. He was defensive line coach at Miami during their title years in 1989 and 1991.

9) This is not his first head coaching gig. He was in charge at Ole Miss for three years (2005-07) and this is not his first interim head coaching job. He took over at Southern Cal for the fired Lane Kiffin in September of 2013.

10) As interim boss at USC, the Trojans went 6-2. Despite stories that the players petitioned then AD Pat Haden that he get the job, he was passed over for Washington State's Steve Sarkisian. Orgeron resigned and moved to LSU.
