Zion Williamson ‘Excited’ To Join New Orleans Pelicans
When the world learned the #1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft belonged to the New Orleans Pelicans, the response was as foreseeable as the end of an episode of Walker Texas Ranger. (Spoiler Alert, Chuck Norris wins)
The predictable palaver from some (not all) national talking heads, with no regard of a source or credibility, instantly began.
Everything from, "Zion was disappointed because he was hoping New York would win the NBA Draft Lottery", to "Zion hasn't signed an agent or shoe deal yet, so he may return to Duke rather than play for the Pelicans."
All the takes were flawed, with a lack of any reasonable plausibility.
This morning, Jordy Culotta and T-Bob Hebert of ESPN 104.5 in Baton Rouge spoke to Zion's stepdad, Lee Anderson, who was driving Zion back from a dental appointment.
Zion Williamson is excited for his future with the New Orleans Pelicans, and felt like they would be a good fit before the draft lottery took place.
To recap, Zion and his family met with Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry, VP of basketball operations David Griffin, are excited at the prospect of joining the Pelicans, and never considered going back to Duke.
None of this is surprising either, despite what a few personalities with a national platform would have you believe.
Carry on.
