Former New Orleans All Star DeMarcus Cousins Suspended, Contract Terminated
Boogie did a bad. The former NBA All Star has essentially been thrown out of his latest professional basketball league.
DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins has been suspended for the remainder of the season, and had his contract terminated, after a fight with fans during a recent game. The "brawl" took place during a Mets de Guaynabo game in the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League, where Cousins has been playing for the last two seasons. Even though many reports are calling it a "fight" or a "brawl", this incident was far from the Malice at the Palace incident the NBA saw during a game between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons in 2004.
The Incident That Ended Cousins' Puerto Rico Stint
Back in 04, Indiana Pacers players went into the stands in Detroit and started legitimately fighting with fans. However, this Puerto Rico incident with Boogie Cousins was more tame. See the video here:
During Cousins' NBA career, he played for 7 different franchises over his 11 years in the league. Most of his time was spent with the Sacramento Kings, where he was a 3-time All Star and made the All-NBA Second Team twice. The only other team that he played for more than a single season with during his career was the New Orleans Pelicans.
DeMarcus Cousins' Battle with Injuries and Off-Court Issues
Over the course of his time in New Orleans, he was named to one All Star team, and helped the Pels make it to the NBA Playoffs. However, he didn't get to play in the Playoffs for New Orleans. Cousins tore his Achilles tendon before the Playoffs, and missed the rest of the season. His New Orleans career would end there.
Cousins would bounce around the league, playing for the Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Clippers. But after his time in New Orleans, he never made another All Star team, or won any more awards during his career.
The last season Cousins was in the NBA was the 2021-2022 season, where he played in 31 games for the Denver Nuggets. Since then, Cousins has played in countries like Taiwan and Mongolia, before settling in Puerto Rico for the last two seasons.
