If / when you start arguing about beers, get ready to be there for a while.  There are as many opinions on which brew is best as there are types of beer.  From IPAs to Saisons and everything in between - there are thousands of types of beers around the world.  For each one of those types, there are thousands of brands that claim to be the best.

The World Beer Cup is this universe's attempt to bring order to that chaos, and that grand order of esteemed (and probably drunk) brew testers have weighed in with their judgments.  The Lone Star State came home with a lot of hardware, but Louisiana was noticeably absent from the foamy winners circle.  All-in-all, Texas breweries took home 11 awards - including gold for best honey beer, best "other" strong beer, South German-style Hefeweizen, wood and barrel-aged strong stout, and many others.  Check out the entire delicious rundown here.

The surprising part for me is that there are no Louisiana Breweries in the winners list.  With all of the fantastic beer makers in the Bayou State, I am shocked that none made the cut.  Personally - I would love to see Great Raft, Abita, Flying Heart, or Red River make a showing.  Until then I will give Great Raft's 318 Golden Ale the Brandon Michael seal of approval.
