When Does The School Year Begin in Shreveport Bossier?

School isn't supposed to start until after Labor Day.  There, I said it.  I understand the school system has to provide a certain number of actual 'teaching days' per school year, but do they have to start the new school year in the middle of the summer?

It seems every school year begins earlier and earlier. In addition to cutting into summer vacation, when you open schools at the beginning of August, you now have to cool all these facilites for a much longer period of time during the year. But because there has to be a minimum number of teaching days, and there are more breaks throughout the year, schools now have to open much sooner than they used to.

Caddo Parish 2022-2023 Schedule

In Caddo Parish, school starts August 3rd for Elementary & Middle School students, August 10th is the first day for High School students.  Schools will be closed for Labor Day September 5th, Election Day November 8th, and Martin Luther King Day January 16th.  Breaks include:
