With Louisiana's legislature debating the expansion of legal gambling in the state, and the recent report saying that two of Shreveport - Bossier City's six casinos should consider relocating, personal finance website WalletHub has released its latest study, detailing 2019's Most Gambling-Addicted States.

In an attempt to pinpoint the states where gambling addiction is most prevalent, WalletHub compared state-by-state data across 20 key metrics. The data set ranges from presence of illegal gambling operations to lottery sales per capita to share of adults with gambling disorders.

"That (gambling) addiction can lead to serious economic consequences. For example, U.S. consumers experience over $100 billion per year in total gambling losses. As a result, gambling addicts develop a high tendency to amass even more debt, suffer from other health issues, lose their jobs, strain their relationships or even commit crimes."

And how does our own state stack up? Again from wallethub.com:

Gambling Addiction in Louisiana (1=Most Addicted, 25=Avg.):
  • 13th – Casinos per Capita
  • 7th – Gaming Machines per Capita
  • 11th – Gambling-Related Arrests per Capita
  • 4th – Commercial Casinos Revenues per Capita
