Watch Fan Reactions When LSU Beat Bama
LSU- Alabama.... Every year, this game is so big, each team takes their bye week before the game to prepare. The rivalry goes back to 1895. The first time LSU squared off with Alabama LSU won 12-6. The programs didn't start the annual contest until 1964, Alabama leads the series overall 55-27-5.
LSU hasn't beaten Alabama in Tiger Stadium since 2010... Twelve years... In the storybook 2019 season Joe Burrow and the now legendary team of the ages beat Bama in their house. 12 years... that's a long stretch... but it all changed Saturday night.
Why LSU?
When LSU coach Brian Kelly was asked about coming to Baton Rouge to coach the Tigers, he said, among other things, one of his goals was to beat Nick Saban. "Who wouldn't want to beat Nick Saban?" Kelly said.
According to an ESPN report, this is only the second time in Nick Saban's tenure as head coach at Alabama to be beaten by one point. The last time LSU beat Bama by one point was all the way back in 1988.
A Rocky Start
Coach Kelly got his LSU career off to a rather tenuous start with a season opening loss to Florida State 24-23. They went on to win 4 in a row, but it was against programs like Southern and New Mexico. The next real test was the surging Tennessee Vols, which dominated the Tigers 40-13. But after that game, Kelly began to make believers out of his players... and then the fans.
Coach Kelly Made Believers
The Tigers then went on to beat Florida, Ol' Miss... and now Alabama... at home... LSU now controls their own destiny heading into the College Football Playoffs. LSU now sits atop the SEC West. LSU went from being unranked at the start of the season, to #7 in the country. Brian Kelly will never have to buy his own steak dinner in Baton Rouge ever again.
