Victim Identified in Deadly Highland Shooting
There was another deadly shooting in the Highland neighborhood in Shreveport on Thursday. The Caddo Parish Coroner's office identified the victim as 32 year old Datwaine J. Broomfield.
Police say Broomfield was shot and killed in the 400 block of Boulevard Street on Thursday. He was found in an apartment with a gunshot wound. Attempts by Shreveport Fire Department EMT's to rescucitate Broomfield were unsuccessful. Shreveport Police have a suspect in custody.
Broomfield's murder marks the 46th murder in Shreveport for 2022. There were 78 homicides in Shreveport at this point last year. 2021 ended up with a record number of homicides for the year.
Homicides in the 71104 zip code are up from this point last year. This marks the 5th homicide in the 71104 zip code for 2022. There were only 3 for the entire year last year.
Police report homicide rates for the year are down considerably, with a 41 percent drop from last year's record setting numbers. In fact, Shreveport made it through the entire month of August with no homicides reported for the month.
