Thousands Left Without Power in Shreveport Area
Swepco crews have been working through the night to restore power to thousands of customers in the Shreveport Bossier City area who were left without power during the Thursday evening storms.
The latest outage map from the power company shows about 6,800 customers without power in the Ark-La-Tex. About 4,000 of those problem areas are in Shreveport with much of it concentrated in southeast Shreveport where the brunt of the storm roared through late Thursday afternoon. There are about 1,600 without power around Longview, Texas.
Numerous trees were knocked down and as a tornado touched down in an area near Youree Drive and Sophia you can clearly see power flashes on many videos taken of the storm.
The storm touched down on both sides of Youree Drive, causing damage to an insurance agency and a Valero gas station. Police say at this time, there have been no reports of anyone seriously hurt.
There have also been some reports of damage including trees down in the Mooringsport area and near Benton. The National Weather Service will have crews out in the neighborhoods today to examine the damage to try to determine how many tornadoes touched down. But the winds during the height of the storm were also close to 70 MPH and that is likely the cause of so much damage to trees.
