SHREVEPORT, LA – There is nothing more pleasant than the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. Fresh cookies are also a great smell. You might find both of those smells at some of the finest bakeries in the country.

Food & Wine named the 100 best bakeries in America and 2 in Louisiana made this prestigious list.

Both of these Louisiana spots are in the New Orleans area.

At La Petite Sophie in River Ridge, LA you will find great baked goods and lots of amazing treats. This bakery boasts "Deliriously Almond Kouign Amann w/ the gooey delicious caramel interior of the classic KA studded with glistening chunks of crunchy almonds."

This is also one of the spots in the Bayou State to grab croissants that are second to none. But note, you will want to get a box of them, not just one or two.

The 2nd Louisiana bakery to land on this prestigious list is Leidenheimer Baking Company of New Orleans. At this spot you will find amazing breads. In fact the locals say the French bread is the best you will ever eat. Restaurants all around New Orleans order there po-boy bread from Leidenheimer.

While we don't have a bakery in north Louisiana on this list, we do want to remind you that another national food group did cite a Shreveport bakery for honors. Taste of Home selected the best bakery in each state and Julie Anne’s Bakery & Cafe of Shreveport won that honor. I am sure Julie Anne's will eventually make it to the best bakery list in America, eventually.

I got to taste each one of these delectable delights and try to decide the best one.
