Three Arrests Made in LSP’s Largest Child Porn Seizure

Louisiana State Police have made three arrests in what they say is the largest seizure of child porn in the department's history, and one of those arrested is from Shreveport.

According to a news release, detectives assigned to the LSP Special Victims Unit conducted three separate statewide investigations focusing on the production and distribution of child pornography in Louisiana.

During the course of the search warrants, troopers seized over 800 DVDs, 13 portable storage devices, and numerous cell phones and laptop computers, all containing lewd pornographic images and videos of children. Some of them even depicted the rape of infants.

On June 10, detectives with the Shreveport Field Office searched the residence of 51-year-old James Vail of Shreveport. He was found to be in possession of over 1-million illicit files. He was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on 51 counts of distributing pornography involving juveniles and 1,500 counts of possessing child pornography.

On June 10, detectives with the New Orleans Field Office, with assistance from the Louisiana Department of Justice, U.S. Homeland Security Office and St. John Parish Sheriff's Office, searched the home of 30-year-old Steven Lucia of LaPlace. He was charged with distributing child porn and possessing marijuana. He was also charged for contempt of court warrants in St. John and Terrebonne Parishes.

On June 8, detectives with the Alexandria Field Office, with help from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office, searched the home of 35-year-old Nicholas Bordelon of Hessmer. He was ultimately charged with over 300 separate counts of possessing and distributing child pornography.

"We created the Special Victims Unit for exactly this purpose with a focus on rescuing victims and targeting perpetrators of crimes involving the exploitation of children and the trafficking of humans for sex or labor," said State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson in a news release. "The Louisiana State Police will employ all available investigative resources and will remain vigilant as long as individuals choose to possess, distribute and promote child pornography. This is a team effort as we continue to partner with law enforcement agencies across the state to bring these criminals to justice."
