SHREVEPORT, LA – Thanksgiving week is here and there is no doubt it will be a busy week for travel.

AAA’s forecast says the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and (Nov. 26) and the Monday after (Dec. 2) Thanksgiving Day will be very busy days for travelers across Louisiana.

How Many People Will Be Traveling?

AAA projects nearly 80 million people will head 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday week. This is an increase of 1.7 million people compared to last year and 2 million more than in 2019. 71 million of the travelers will be heading out via car.

Thanksgiving is the busiest holiday for travel, and this year we’re expecting to set new records across the board, from driving to flying and cruising. Americans reconnect with family and friends over Thanksgiving, and travel is a big part of that. AAA continues to see travel demand soar.

Travel Will Be Cheaper this Year

There is some good news for travelers this Thanksgiving. Gas prices continue to dip compared to last year. The national average per gallon last year was close to $3.26. This year we are paying just below $3 a gallon on average. Of course, the price in Louisiana is even lower than that.

Air Travel Numbers Could Hit New Record

AAA says Thanksgiving air travel could see record numbers this year. AAA projects 5.84 million people will fly domestically for the holiday. That’s up about 2% when we check the numbers from last year and up more than 10% from pre pandemic numbers.
