Be Ready for an Extended Power Outage

In the event of an extended power outage, contact family, friends, neighbors, people with medical conditions, and the elderly to ensure they also have a plan.

Helpful Tips include:

  • Have an adequate supply of medications needed
  • If you use life-saving medical equipment, ensure necessary supplies are on hand for an extended period of time
  • If your medical equipment relies on electricity, it's advised to have either a backup power source or an alternate plan

Prepare an Emergency Outage Kit

It's a good idea to have an emergency kit prepared that includes:

  • non-perishable food
  • water
  • flashlights
  • batteries
  • first-aid kit
  • medications

Also, don't forget any special needs for children or pets.  You can check the Swepco website HERE for a complete list.

Make sure to charge cell phones, laptops, tablets and other electronics to help you stay connected.  Don't forget to have a backup power source like a portable charger.
