The National Weather Service in Shreveport is issuing some early morning alerts for the possibility of severe weather today. With the possibility of some very strong storms, and flooding rainfall, moving into the Shreveport and Bossier City area throughout the day. Storms that could spawn very dangerous conditions.

What Is The Severe Weather Threat Today In Shreveport?

In the early morning hours, the National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a "Slight Risk" of severe weather striking the Shreveport and Bossier area today. While the term "slight" doesn't seem like a strong risk, its the second highest on the 5-level scale the National Weather Service uses. While its not a "Watch" or a "Warning", its an early indicator that conditions will be right for things like damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes.

What Is The Severe Risk Today For The Ark-La-Tex?

While the Shreveport and Bossier areas are under a "Slight Risk", other portions of the Ark-La-Tex face an even stronger risk. The third level on the National Weather Service advanced risk assessment is "Enhanced Risk". That's the label that East Texas cities like Longview, Tyler, and Texarkana find themselves under this morning. Meaning they're also at risk for damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes...but their risk is greater than Shreveport's.

Could It Flood In Shreveport?

The National Weather Service is watching for flooding rains to be possible with this storm system as well. There is a Flood Watch already in effect for northern parts of the Ark-La-Tex, like Texarkana, who could see up to an inch of rain from this system. Some of the communities north of Texarkana could face over 2 inches of rain in the next couple of days.

While Shreveport might only see half-an-inch of rain from this system, its downriver from locations that could face multiple inches of rain in a short period of time. Meaning an already high Red River could swell with that rainfall flowing south after it hits the ground.

So even though this system doesn't currently carry Flash Flooding risks for Shreveport, the elements are there for a more "long term" concern.
