Statue of Late Penn State Coach Joe Paterno Ordered Down
The alumni, fans, and citizens of the Penn State Nittany Lions community have something new to stress, or rejoice over: the removal of Joe Paterno's statue.
This removal will no less, eliminate any ties or memories of the man many looked up to and worshiped for many years.
New Penn State president Rod Erickson made the tough decision, that many felt would never happen. But, in his mind and in the mind of some it's the right thing to do.
This morning, construction trucks surrounded the statue, which sits outside Beaver Stadium, a place which has now become tainted with the everlasting thoughts of sexual abuse and wrongdoing, to being the removal process.
Erickson said in a statement this morning, ''I believe that, were it to remain, the statue will be a recurring wound to the multitude of individuals across the nation and beyond who have been the victims of child abuse."
While his statue will be placed in a storage to presumably collect dust, according to Erickson, his name will still grace the university's library due to the "substantial and lasting contributions to the academic life and educational excellence that the Paterno family has made to Penn State University.''
As of this moment, calls have been made to the late Paterno's family, but so far they have not commented on this situation.
What do you think, is this the right decision?
