Water troubles for at least one neighborhood in Shreveport. There has been a water main break on Ford Street just west of downtown Shreveport. Water and sewer crews have completed the repairs.

But during this process water service was temporarily shut off, affecting customers in the 1700–2000 blocks of Ford Street (Ford Street from Earnest B. Miller to Leroy Street).

What Happens in the Neighborhood Now

As a precaution, the Department of Water & Sewerage has issued a Voluntary Boil Advisory, effective immediately upon restoration of service. This advisory will remain in place until water samples are collected, analyzed, and confirmed to be free of bacteria.

City leaders say customers in the affected area are advised to disinfect water before consuming it — including for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food, or rinsing foods.

Here's What You Need to Do

• Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container.

The one-minute time begins after the water reaches a rolling boil. (Flat taste can be reduced by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it between clean containers.)

Director Brandon Snead has this message for his crews and local residents:

Our teams worked quickly and efficiently to complete these repairs and restore service as safely as possible. We appreciate the patience of our customers and encourage those in the affected area to follow the boil advisory until testing confirms the water is safe.

Once satisfactory test results are received and approved by the Louisiana Department of Health, the Department of Water & Sewerage will rescind the Voluntary Boil Advisory and notify affected customers.

If you need to report a broken water line, contact the Department of Water & Sewerage at 318-673-7600.
