Community Rallies to Support Shreveport Shooting Survivors with Donations
Money is now reaching the families of victims of the April 19th mass shooting in Shreveport that left 8 children dead.
The Community Foundation set up a Survivors Fund, but after thousands of dollars were donated, the agency learned IRS rules would not allow the money to be handed over directly to individuals. So the donations were refunded.
But now, the agency has found a private donor to step up and help the families.
The group sent this message to KEEL News:
Following the closure of the April 19 Survivors Fund, it was of the utmost importance to the Community Foundation of North Louisiana to do everything in its power to find financial assistance for the three mothers who survived the terrible tragedy. For the past several weeks, CFNLA has been working diligently to find alternative solutions, and we are pleased to announce that each of the three surviving mothers has now received financial assistance from a private funder in excess of the original amount donated to the Survivors Fund.
Kristi Gustavson with the Community Foundation says "we are so grateful for this incredible act of generosity and continue to be touched by how our community has come together to support these survivors."
The Community Foundation still has a fund to fight domestic violence. You can click here to make a contribution to that fund.
