Shreveport Students Under Lock Down at University of Virginia
Sad news out of Charlottesville, Virginia as a shooter is still at large after killing 3 and injuring 2 more on the campus of University of Virgina.
Local political analyst Scott Hughes told KEEL News Monday morning his daughter is a third year student at the University of Virginia. His daughter is a Senior ___ , and when she received the news of an active shooter, immediately locked down her dorm, and ensured the safety of the residents in her dorm.
Scott also mentioned how the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech are rivals, but how the two campuses came together during the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech's campus in 2007, when a South Korean undergraduate student killed 32 people, wounding 17 others. Rivalries were forgotten as officials and students from UVA rallied around the shocked and hurting people on the Virgina Tech campus.
Police announced they have a suspect in the shootings. They are currently seeking Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., a current UVA student and former college football player. Jones is described as a black male last seen wearing a burgundy jacket/hoodie, blue jeans with red shoes. Jones might be driving a black SUV.
Shreveport City Councilman John Nickelson reported to KEEL News his daughter, who is a freshman at UVA, and has been reported safe.
