Understanding Third-Degree Rape in Louisiana

According to Louisiana Revised Statute 14:43, Third-Degree Rape is defined as non-consensual anal, oral, or vaginal intercourse committed under specific circumstances. These circumstances include:

  • When the victim is incapable of resisting or understanding the act due to intoxication, stupor, or another mental condition, and the offender was aware or should have been aware of the victim's condition.
  • When the victim is temporarily or permanently unable to understand the act due to an unsound mind, and the offender was aware or should have been aware of this incapacity.
  • When the victim submits under the mistaken belief that the offender is someone else they know, and this belief was intentionally induced by deception.

The investigation into this case is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Shreveport Police Department at (318) 673-7300 or Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
