
Louisiana’s Gumbo Float Puts Shreveport on Rose Parade Watch
Shreveport viewers will have a hometown reason to tune in on New Year’s Day as Louisiana rolls back into Pasadena with a food-focused Rose Parade float built around one of the state’s most recognizable traditions: gumbo.
The 2026 Rose Parade theme is “The Magic in Teamwork,” and state leaders say that fits perfectly with the way a pot of gumbo comes together, from crops and spices to seafood and the folks who stir it all up.
A Louisiana Pelican Chef, A Gumbo Pot, and a Whole Lot of Flowers
From Pasadena, California, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser told KEEL News on Monday described a float featuring a large pelican “chef” stirring a gumbo pot, with volunteers beginning the detailed floral decorating process in the days leading up to the parade.

The Rose Parade’s reach is part of the appeal. Tournament of Roses statistics show the parade drawing about 21 million individual viewers, giving Louisiana a massive national stage to show off its culture and cuisine.
“Certified Louisiana” Brings the Grocery Aisle to the Parade Route
Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain highlighted the state’s “Certified Louisiana” program, which identifies products that are produced or processed in Louisiana. The idea is simple: when people see Louisiana food on a big stage, it sparks curiosity, and those products become easier to spot back home at the store.
Cajun Coast Spotlight: Swamps, Seafood, and a Quick Weekend Escape
Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau director Carrie Stansbury used the Rose Parade moment to pitch St. Mary Parish as a middle-of-the-map getaway between New Orleans and Lafayette. She pointed to swamp tours into the Atchafalaya Basin, inshore and offshore fishing, historic main streets, and the kind of fresh seafood that does not need much help to taste like Louisiana.
