What Are the Road Conditions in Shreveport-Bossier Today?

SHREVEPORT, LA - Road conditions in Shreveport-Bossier City are way better than many of us expected when this winter storm started to approach the region.

One early sign that things were ok was the big ramp to get on I-20 in front of Ernests. That ramp was open and the bridge to get onto the freeway was open. I did not see any black ice.

There has been a lot of concern about temperatures dipping into the 20's during the overnight hours with a steady dose of winter precipitation which could come in the form of ice or snow. In the Shreveport Bossier metro, that has not materialized.

The temperature has stayed about 3-4 degrees above freezing and that means we are just getting rain. It's still cold and nasty, but I did not find any roads or bridges with ice on them during my drive from east Shreveport to the west side.

The bridge section of the highway at Common Street is also pretty treacherous when there is ice, but all I got was some light rain.

The next big spot to watch was the exit to get onto I-49. That is usually one of the first spots to be closed if we have ice and it was nice to see I-49 is completely open today.

Drivers were going pretty slow just to make sure there was no black ice, because that's tough to see during the day or night. I did run into a pretty good little shower on the way to work at about 4:30 this morning. But the temperature on my car showed 37 degrees, so our roads in the metro are not a problem

A co-worker coming in from Haughton also told me he didn't have any problems either. I think that freezing line pushed north which spared the Shreveport-Bossier metro.
