Breaking: New Police Substation Coming to SE Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, LA – A big decision has been made for the future of crime fighting in Shreveport. City leaders have made a decision about where a police substation will be located in the southeast part of the city.
Mayor Tom Arceneaux says the facility will be built at the corner of West 70th Street and St. Vincent Avenue in Cedar Grove.
The Mayor says “We have been trying to find the best site for the southeast substation for more than a year.” He credits District “D” Councilman Grayson Boucher for suggesting the Cedar Grove Park site.
Councilman Boucher has been very involved in the search for land for the southeast substation. I think his idea is the best possible solution we could have.

Police Chief Wayne Smith also says this is a good location for his department.
“From the very beginning, selecting substation locations has been a process we approached with the utmost care and responsibility. We're incredibly grateful for the strong support we've received from our council, and we truly believe this location will stand the test of time as a smart and community-focused choice.”

This site currently houses a Sportran transfer site and is already owned by the city. The proposed plan includes keeping the current playground at that location. The ball field will also be a part of this development, though it might be relocated just a bit to make way for the police substation.

This new substation will follow the same model of others built in the city as a way to save design money. This will help speed up the process.
The city is currently in the process of building substations in West Shreveport and on North Market Street. Plans are to receive bids on the Cedar Grove substation later this year and to have construction complete by the summer of next year.
