A search is underway for an inmate who fled from security officials while being guarded at University Health Saturday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m., Shreveport police patrol officers were called to the hospital to a report of an inmate who somehow managed to escape from a private security guard. The inmate was brought to the facility for medical treatment for an unknow issue.

The inmate is identified as 25-year-old Byron Hardy of Shreveport. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail January 26 on felony charges of home invasion, burglary of an inhabited dwelling and domestic abuse battery.

Hardy was last seen running on foot, heading eastbound on Kings Highway towards Samford Street. Hardy is described as a black male, about 5'9" to 5'10" tall and about 150 pounds. He was wearing navy blue pajama pants with no shirt. He also has several tattoos on his chest and arms, along with surgical scars along his mid-section.

Authorities are being assisted by a K-9 in an effort to track Hardy in the areas surrounding Samford and Kings. Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Anyone with information is urged to contact Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
