Voters have approved a bond proposal to build a new police headquarters but many are wondering why it's taking so long.

At least 3 Shreveport City Council members think it is time to declare an emergency and move quickly to make changes and improve the working conditions for all of our police officers and staff.

They have sent this letter to the Mayor:

Some of the management team at SPD has already been moved out of the Texas Street building an into a much more modern facility owned by Swepco in downtown Shreveport.

That building on Travis Street is now housing the administrative headquarters for the mounted patrol and the downtown unit. The building is also being used for general office space.

The Council is expected to take a look at a measure later this month to declare an emergency and move all of the SPD forces out of the dilapidated building immediately.
