3 Shreveport Officers Placed on Paid Leave After Fatal Shooting

3 Shreveport police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect on Sunday night have been placed on paid administrative leave. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith made the announcement in a news release sent to the media on Thursday. This is standard procedure in a case of a police involved shooting.

The officers involved in the shooting death of fatal shooting are:

Shreveport officers involved in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Joseph Dewayne Taylor are Sergeant Daniel Denby, Officer Terri Simmons, and Officer Anthony Visciotti. They  were placed on administrative leave immediately following the April 23rd incident. The investigation into this incident has been turned over to Louisiana State Police.

State Police issued an updated statement on this case:

The shooting occurred on Mansfield Road at Valley View Drive within the city limits of
Shreveport. The initial investigation revealed that at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the SPD Community Response
Unit (CRU) initiated a traffic stop on a blue 1994 4-door Chevrolet Capris for Improper Lane Usage on Mansfield
Road at Valley View Drive. Once SPD officers contacted the subject, he became uncooperative and failed to
comply with lawful orders. As officers attempted to take him into custody, he physically resisted and a struggle
ensued. Following an ineffective Taser deployment, the subject who was armed with a handgun was shot as the
struggle continued with the SPD officers. The subject was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and
pronounced deceased.

State police are expected to release additional information including body cam video after coordinating that effort with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.
