Shreveport Police Arrest Convicted Felon on Firearms Charge
On March 1st, 2023, Shreveport Police Community Response Units were proactively patrolling the Hollywood area when they conducted a traffic stop in the 4200 block of Hollywood Avenue. During the officer’s roadside investigation, a handgun and narcotics were located.
Officers detained Artis Henderson (8-30-82) as he was also found to have a suspended driver’s license. Henderson was also found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun and Marijuana. Further investigation into the matter revealed that Henderson was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an Armed Robbery conviction.
The firearm was seized by the officer and Henderson was arrested for one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possession of Schedule I Narcotics, and one count of driving under suspension.
Currently, Shreveport is on pace to reach record numbers for homicides for the year. At this writing, Shreveport has already logged 15 homicides for 2023. The deadliest year on record is 1993, with a total of 86 homicides. At the rate we're going now, we could be looking at nearly 89 homicides for the year. It's vital the police continue to get guns out of the hands of convicted felons.
