Shreveport Police Arrest Convicted Felon During Domestic Dispute
SHREVEPORT, LA- Shreveport police arrest convicted felon during domestic dispute
On September 21st, 2023, around 9:14 p.m. Shreveport Police Patrol officers were called to a Domestic trouble in the 3600 block of Darien Street. Upon arrival, officers found that a male suspect was attacking a female household member in the presence of small children. Officers attempted to detain the man identified as Donald Nelson (12-14-77). Nelson violently resisted by kicking and headbutting a female officer. Once in custody, he proceeded to damage the interior of the police vehicle.
Further investigation into the matter revealed that Nelson was in possession of a firearm. Officers found he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to being a convicted felon for prior felony offenses.
Nelson was arrested on one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, one count of battery of a police officer, three counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child endangerment, and one count of Felony Domestic Abuse Battery.
The officer and the female victim sustained injuries but are expected to recover.
The firearm was seized as evidence.
