Shreveport Native Starts For XFL Team Opening Weekend
The start of the new XFL has been electric. The quality of football is extremely high, with incredible plays happening every few minutes. Then there's the innovative approach to the broadcasts, with referee, coaches, players, and the instant replay booth all on live microphones for the home audience.
For fans in the Ark-La-Tex, there's been more than the innovation getting their attention.
Shreveport native L'Damian Washington played his high school football at Green Oaks, before heading off to Missouri, where he became a starting wide receiver and team captain. After his college career, Washington found opportunities with 7 NFL teams, though he wasn't able to make the roster with any of them. Washington also spent time with two Canadian Football League teams, before finding a spot with the short lived Alliance of American Football. In the AAF he played for the Birmingham Iron, before the league folded.
Now Washington is a starting wide receiver in the XFL, where he is expected to be a big part of the offense for the St. Louis BattleHawks.
UPDATE: Washington had five catches in the BattleHawks first game. Those catches included multiple first down conversions on their way to a win over the Dallas Renegades.
