
Shreveport Teen Arrested for Marijuana and Gun Possession
Caddo Parish Sheriff's Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of East Flournoy Lucas Road after observing a driver commit a traffic violation.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 19 year-old Daryl Bates Jr., a Corporal detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. Deputies also observed an AR-style rifle positioned next to Bates' leg.
After further investigation, deputies found two bags with around 88.9 grams of suspected marijuana, along with the AR-style rifle. Deputies determined that Bates was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver's license.
Daryl Bates Jr. was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, and driving under suspension.
Bates was then transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on those charges.
