SHREVEPORT, LA - One man is dead after a high speed chase through Shreveport over the weekend. Shreveport Police say this incident started during the early morning hours of Sunday May 19 in the Mooretown neighborhood.

Shreveport Police Patrol officers encountered a suspicious vehicle at Airport Park on Kennedy Drive. As the officers approached the vehicle, the driver fled, prompting a pursuit.

About 20 minutes later, the fleeing car stopped in the 100 block of Lake Street in downtown Shreveport. As officers approached the suspect's car, they heard a single gunshot. The officers discovered the driver sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and they immediately began rendering aid.

Shreveport Fire Department medics arrived promptly and transported the driver to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Detectives from the Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office responded to the scene. The driver was later identified and found to have outstanding traffic warrants.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time. Identification will be made by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
