A man from Shreveport has died in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 190 west of Hammond.

Louisiana State Police say 51-year-old Morgan Ellsworth Welch was headed west on U.S. 190 near I-55, when his motorcycle drifted into the eastbound lane and was hit head-on by an Isuzu Trooper driven by a 32-year-old Springfield man.

Welch was wearing a helmet, but still suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. A blood sample will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The driver of the Isuzu provided troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which did not yield any trace amounts of alcohol. No charges have been filed in the accident.

Troopers remind you that regardless of the type of vehicle you are driving, you should remain vigilant on the roadway. They say there is no meeting, appointment, or assignment that is worth driving recklessly. Always wear your seatbelt, eliminate distractions, and never drive impaired.
