Shreveport Man Who Attacked Coworker with Hammer Faces Additional Charges
Three men were arrested back on September 15th after Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a call at a business in the 9100 block of Youree Drive about a battery. Deputies discovered a victim had been attacked and struck in the back of the head with a hammer several times.
Video evidence showed Darius Coleman, 33, hit the victim with a hammer multiple times. When the victim tried to defend himself, two other men, Kerrick Jones, 21, and Ty Whitaker, 20, joined the fight. The three suspects punched and kicked the victim in the head and neck while he was immobilized on the ground. Darrius, Ty, and Kerrick fled the scene before the deputies arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital by Shreveport Fire Department personnel after law enforcement was notified. After an investigation, the deputies arrived at the Cambridge Court apartments where they found the suspects in an apartment. After several hours of waiting for the suspects to open the door, a search warrant was obtained. Deputies also recovered illegal drugs, a stolen gun, and the hammer that was used in the attack.
The three men were arrested and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. Coleman was charged with aggravated second-degree battery, while the other two, Whitaker and Jones were booked under second-degree battery. More charges were expected at the time.
Now deputies discovered the drugs found in the apartment were determined to be methamphetamine and marijuana. Darius Coleman now faces two additional charges of possession of schedule II and possession of schedule I narcotics.
