An exchange of gunfire near the intersection of Line Avenue and Turner Lane caused an accident that sent three people to the hospital and another man to jail.

Shreveport police say a man was attempting to turn east onto Turner Lane from the 7500 block of Line Avenue, when he crashed into another vehicle headed north on Line.

Officers say 24-year-old Dederick Mackey wasn't hurt. He's told investigators that he was trying to elude a red, four-door vehicle, possibly a Jaguar, and that someone inside that car was firing shots at him when the wreck happened. But Mackey didn't know who the driver was or why he was shooting at him.

Three people in the other car involved in the wreck were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Mackey was taken in for questioning, where detectives figured out he may have fired shots from his vehicle, as well. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and illegal use of a weapon from a moving vehicle.
