Shreveport city jail inmate has died after he was reportedly beaten by a fellow inmate while in the lockup. The elderly male prisoner died Monday, June 20th at Ochsner LSU Health hospital.
72-year-old Bobbie Young died at 4:39 p.m. at Ochsner, where he had been taken with head injuries back on June 3rd.

An autopsy was ordered. An exact determination of the method and manner of his death is pending further investigation.

Young was being held on drugs and firearm charges.

Earlier reports indicated 35-year-old Andrew Adaway was in a holding cell with Bobbie Young when the pair allegedly started brawling in the lockup. That fight resulted in a trip to the hospital for Young. He took a turn for the worse this week and did not survive his injuries.

Shortly after the fight, Adaway was charged with aggravated second-degree battery. That charge is now expected to be upgraded with the news of Young's death.

He is now being held in the Caddo Correctional Center.

Young's death marks the 31st homicide of the year in Caddo Parish.
