Shreveport Police Arrest Man in Fatal Hit-And-Run Case
Yesterday, the Shreveport Police Department's Crash Unit made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run that happened last week.
On Saturday evening, Shreveport Police were called to Hearne Avenue to reports of a pedestrian involved hit-and-run.
When Police got to the scene, they found a man laying in the grass near the road. Shreveport Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene where they pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Coroner later identified the man as Blake Tannen.
SPD began their investigation, and witness statements indicate that Tannen had been walking north in the southbound lane of Hearne Avenue when he was hit by the car. A shoulder and sidewalk were accessible, but evidence puts Tannen in the road at the time of the incident.
The car did not stop after hitting Tannen, but fled the scene after the collision. The force in which Tannen was hit threw him in to the grass.
Following an investigation by the crash unit, they were able to determine that the person suspected of driving the car that hit Tannen is Leavern Johnson.
Johnson has been charged with the following:
· Felony Hit-and-Run
· Felony Obstruction
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department extends its appreciation to the community for its assistance and reminds drivers that leaving the scene of a crash is a serious crime with devastating consequences.
The case remains under investigation as more charges may be added."
