Early this morning just before 6am, 911 was called from I-20 near the Bert Kouns exit saying 2 18-wheelers had crashed in to each other. When SFD showed up they realized one of the trucks was leaking diesel fuel all over the road. Firefighters worked hard to contain the diesel fuel and tried to make sure nothing sparked and caused bigger problems.

The fuel leak was so big that Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) were called out to help SFD contain the spill of hazardous materials.

Lanes were closed for much of the morning causing some traffic issues, but the spill has been contained and the 18-wheelers were cleared from the road.

From SFD:

"The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Shreveport Fire Department reminds all drivers to exercise caution on the roadways, and to report any incidents involving spills immediately to emergency services."
