Fire Breaks Out In Shreveport Home, Firefighters Respond Quickly
Smoke was billowing high into the sky in south Shreveport Monday afternoon. Firefighters were called to a home in the South Highlands neighborhood just after 3:30pm. The fire was at a home in the 600 block of Dumbarton Drive.
The first crews on the scene found heavy flames coming from the back of the two-story home. The fire originated in the garage and extended into the attic of the home.
More than 40 firefighters and 16 units responded to this blaze. The crews launched an aggressive interior attack to bring the fire under control. About an hour later, the blaze was under control and the home was no longer engulfed in flames.
Thankfully, no one was inside the home at the time of this blaze. One firefighter did suffer a non-critical injury while battling the blaze. That firefighter was rushed to a local hospital for evaluation.
The house was heavily damaged by the fire and smoke. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division.
The best way to stay safe in the event of a fire is to have a smoke detector. For fire safety tips, or to request a free smoke alarm for your residence visit www.shreveportfire.org.
