Just before 9:30 Monday evening, SFD and Signal 51 responded to a reported house fire in the 600 block of Kings Towne Place.

Neighbors reported the house was fully engulfed and Engine 9 confirmed that when they arrived on scene.

They went in on Fire Attack as did other companies when they arrived.

Engine 17 brought a supply line and the fire was quickly brought under control.

The house was vacant and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The following is a list of fire and life safety educational programs currently offered by the department. To request a program, click here and complete the Public Fire Education Program Request form. One of our Fire Prevention Officers will contact you about the request.

• Hot or Not? (3-5) Pictures are used to reinforce good behaviors and deter bad behaviors associated with common household items to prevent fires and injuries.

• Bunker Gear Dress Up (6-12) Firefighting equipment is displayed and integrated into a discussion about the importance of developing and practicing home fire escape plans. Middle Schools

• Latchkey Safety Safe practices involving cooking in the kitchen are discussed as are critical points involving staying safe from injury while home alone.

• Safe Babysitting Best practices are discussed and reviewed with children who may step into the role of babysitter. High Schools

• Career Day Fire Prevention provides a table display with information about fire safety, displays firefighting equipment, and can present on the topic of a career in the fire service.

• Arson/Alcohol The repercussions of poor choices involving the consumption of alcohol and committing the crime of arson are conveyed to high school students. Colleges

• Campus and Dormitory Fire Safety Fire Prevention discusses the creation of a fire escape plan for dormitory rooms, the importance of knowing one’s campus emergency action plan and rules relating to cooking, and how to notify others through fire alarm systems. Adults (with applicable ages)

• Fall Prevention (55 +) Fire Prevention discusses how to make a home less dangerous to those susceptible of falling.

• Kitchen Fire Safety Participants are educated of how best to stay safe when cooking in the kitchen and prevent fires.

• Carbon Monoxide Safety Information is provided relative to what carbon monoxide is, signs and symptoms of exposure, and how best to protect one’s self. Residential

• Courtesy Home Fire Safety Assessment Fire Prevention, at the request of a homeowner, identifies potential fire and injury hazards within the residence and offers recommendations for remediation.

• EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home) Residents are put through a simulated fire drill within their home after developing a fire escape plan specific to their needs.

• Free Smoke Alarm Installation Fire Prevention will provide and install an appropriate number of free smoke alarms at the request of a homeowner. (To request a smoke alarm, click here) Commercial

• Fire Drills Fire Prevention observes fire drills and offers recommendations to building/business owner(s) of how to improve their response based on the building/business’s established emergency action plan.

• Emergency Action Plans (EAP) Fire Prevention will assist building/business owner(s) in developing the fire, severe weather, and bomb threat portions of their EAP.

• Fire Extinguisher Training An in-depth discussion of fire extinguishers (i.e. types and kinds, proper selection, their components, and uses and limitations) is presented to participants. Willing participants may choose to practice with a real fire extinguisher if one is provided by the hosting facility.

• Floor Warden Training The roles and responsibilities of floor wardens are discussed to provide participants with the knowledge to help them become effective in their duties during a fire emergency.

• High-Rise Fire Safety Information is provided regarding fire safety considerations specific to structures of 3 or more stories. Other Programs

• Holiday Fire Safety Safety information is provided regarding the prevention of fires and use of fireworks during all major holidays.

• Fire Safety for People with Special Needs Unique consideration regarding fire safety is provided to those with special needs (i.e. sight, hearing, or cognitive deficiencies)

• Severe Weather and Tornadoes Participants are informed about the various severe weather events specific to this region and assisted with developing a response plan.

• Health Fairs Fire Prevention provides a table display with pertinent literature and promotional items. Our Officers are also available to answer questions for participants.

• Apartment Fire Safety Fire safety relating to apartments is discussed with management and/or tenants.

• Fire Safety en Espanol Fire Prevention provides fire safety material and literature that is tailored to the Hispanic and Spanish speaking members of the community. Fire Prevention proporciona material y literatura sobre seguridad contra incendios que se adapta a los miembros hispanos y de habla hispana de la comunidad.
