Shreveport Man has 7 DWI’s, and is Still Driving

Shreveport Police arrested a local man over the weekend following a late-night vehicle collision downtown. The incident stood out to officials not just for the crash itself, but for the driver's extensive history of driving under the influence.

On July 12, at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers patrolling near Market Street and Texas Street heard a loud crash nearby while monitoring a large crowd. Upon investigating, they discovered a two-vehicle collision, with one white Dodge Ram sporting heavy front-end damage.

Suspect Becomes Combative with Officers

The driver of the truck, identified as Jacory Harris, was found standing outside his vehicle. Officers immediately noticed signs of severe intoxication, including slurred speech and an inability to maintain his balance. They also spotted a Styrofoam cup in the truck’s center console.

The situation quickly escalated when an officer attempted to retrieve the cup. Harris allegedly grabbed the officer and tried to push him away from the truck. As police moved to detain him, Harris became combative, physically resisting their efforts.

Restraint System Used to Subdue Driver

To safely manage the escalating violence, officers took Harris to the ground and utilized a WRAP restraint system—a tool specifically designed to immobilize individuals who are violently kicking, flailing, or attempting to injure police.

Following the struggle, Harris was evaluated by the Shreveport Fire Department and transported to a local hospital. Once medically cleared, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. No officers were seriously injured during the altercation.

Facing a Seven-Time DWI Charge

Harris is now facing multiple charges, including battery of a police officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, and a severe seventh-offense DWI.

Records reveal this is Harris’ fifth DWI arrest by the Shreveport Police Department alone, with his other two offenses occurring in neighboring jurisdictions. Authorities noted that an offense of this magnitude is no longer a mistake, but a deeply dangerous pattern of behavior that narrowly avoided costing someone their life.
