Shreveport Police Department responded to North Market Street in reference to a reported domestic stabbing.

When SPD and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office got to the scene, they learned that the suspect had barricaded himself inside the apartment with two children and was said to be armed with several firearms.

Shreveport Police deployed their Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team. Officers developed a coordinated plan to resolve the incident.

Officers entered the apartment by breaking down the front door using the armored vehicle, the Bearkat. SPD’s drone was deployed, providing an aerial view from inside the residence. This allowed SPD to determine the location of the children without increasing risk.

An SRT entry team rescued both children from the apartment unharmed. Following the removal of the children, the Crisis Negotiations Team continued negotiations with the suspect, who surrendered and was taken into custody.

The suspect, Deion Johnson, has been charged with:

· Two counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment

· One count of Domestic Abuse Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

· One count of Violation of a Protective Order

Detectives found that the protective order was from an incident back in 2025. Johnson also has pending charges related to four counts of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith:

This incident highlights the strength of modern policing—where training, teamwork, and technology come together to protect lives. Because of the swift actions and the use of advanced tools, our officers were able to safely rescue two children and take a dangerous individual into custody.
