Shreveport City Council Chairman James Flurry is resigning, effective today. Flurry tells KEEL News he will send the paperwork in to the Secretary of State's office today.
Flurry has sold his home in Southern Hills and moved into a townhouse in Southeast Shreveport. That home is not in City Council District E.

Flurry says he is very disappointed by how "my enemies wanted me to jump off the roof and break my neck and leave. They wanted me gone right away. I never was Republican enough. They felt like I sided with the Democrats too much. But I was always trying to build diversity. I made no bones about it."

"I wanted to walk out the front door with my head high and knowing I did the very best I could for my district."

Flurry is very disgruntled with his Republican colleagues and told us he is changing his party affiliation from Republican to Independent today.

Flurry has served on the council representing southwest Shreveport for 7 years. Earlier this year he actually talked about possibly running for Mayor. But he now says he is done with politics.
