
Police Respond To Shooting At Consumers Grocery In Shreveport
Midday Dispute Leads to Near-Fatal Shooting
A routine Sunday morning at a local convenience store turned violent, resulting in a Shreveport man facing Attempted 2nd Degree Murder charges.
Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to Consumers Grocery at 4101 Hollywood Avenue at approximately 11:42 a.m. on May 3, 2026, following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a male victim across the street in the 4800 block of Broadway Avenue. The man was suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen. Emergency medical personnel stabilized the victim on-site before transporting him to Ochsner LSU Health. Hospital officials have characterized his injuries as life-threatening.
Employee Detained Following Investigation
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting originated inside the grocery store during a verbal dispute. The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Malik Ahmad Omar, an employee of the establishment. Officers successfully detained Omar at the scene and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the altercation.
Detectives from the Shreveport Police Department spent the afternoon reviewing store surveillance footage and conducting interviews with witnesses. Based on the evidence gathered, authorities concluded that the use of force was not justified.
Serious Charges Filed in City Jail Booking
Malik Ahmad Omar has been officially charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, a violation of Louisiana Revised Statute 14:27/14:30.1. Following his arrest, Omar was transported to the Shreveport City Jail for booking. While an arrest has been made, police officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing as they finalize the case details.
