Shreveport Woman Arrested for Beating Child With Extension Cord
On November 15, 2024, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Shreveport Police Department juvenile crimes detectives were contacted by staff at Southern Hills Elementary School regarding allegations of abuse involving a 9-year-old student.
School staff reported that the juvenile disclosed she was experiencing pain and had difficulty sitting down. When asked about her injuries, the child explained that her mother, identified as Daisha Davis (B/F, DOB 5-18-97), had struck her with an extension cord.
Detectives and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) immediately responded to the school. The juvenile had visible injuries, including loop-shaped welts, bruising, and swelling on her upper outer thigh.
As a result of the investigation, Daisha Davis was arrested and booked on one count of Cruelty to a Juvenile.
"Situations like this are deeply unfortunate. While the Shreveport Police Department respects a parent's right to discipline their children, it must be done in a reasonable and prudent manner. Using objects that cause injury is not only dangerous but can also constitute a criminal act. Corporal punishment is not forbidden by law, but it must remain reasonable and should not result in harm to the child."
The safety and well-being of children remain a top priority for the Shreveport Police Department.
