Lots of locals will be headed out to do a little shopping Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, but SPAR encourages you to "shop small" in the Red River District Saturday, November 29.

Small Business Saturday runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., with vendors selling homemade gifts during the Shreveport DDA's Pop UP Holiday Market. The festivities also include live entertainment, food trucks and children's activities.

"Small Business Saturday is a national effort that contrasts the Black Friday, big box store madness, with patronizing small, locally-owned businesses the following day," said SPAR event coordinator for the Red River District Marissa Carbine in a news release. "Consider Small Business Saturday a welcome respite to the harried mentality of holiday shopping."

Some of the things to choose from include artisanal ice creams and northern Italian cuisine, handcrafted soaps and personalized gifts. Familiar local vendors like Man Made Soap and Jobean Cards will be open for business under the Texas Street Bridge.

Live entertainment includes performances by Victoria Wells, Midnight Express and What the Funk?! Bounce houses and other activities will keep the kids busy while their parents check items off of their Christmas lists.

And if you get hungry while you shop, you could visit Fully Stacked or Nicky's, or mobile food vendors Rib Tip Express, Jester's Catering or Grill of the Dead.
