Sheriff Steve Prator Offering Boater’s Safety Course
Northwest Louisiana has some of the most beautiful bodies of water in the state. If you're looking to get a boat to enjoy the activities they offer, Sheriff Steve Prator in conjunction with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering a free Boater's Safety Course.
The course will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 14 at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy, 15639 Hwy. 1 South in Caddo Parish. The Caddo Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will cover information on choosing a boat, classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules, navigation charts, hauling trailers, sailboats, and related subjects that include canoeing, personal watercraft and more.
Anyone born after January 1st, 1984 is required by law to have a Boater's Safety certification in order to operate any water vessel. And, the minimum age for the class is 10 years old.
