Nasty weather is headed for the Shreveport Bossier area today. Though we don't officially kick off spring until Sunday, those spring showers will arrive in force.

We will see showers pop up throughout the day, but this band of storms could bring some severe storms to northwest Louisiana.

The Federal Storm Prediction Center has northwest Louisiana right in the middle of the map for some severe weather for Monday afternoon and evening.

NWS Shreveport

NWS Shreveport

A cold front will be approaching from our west today (Monday) and that system will be the catalyst for strong to severe storms.  The biggest threats from these storms will be large hail (up to golf-ball size), damaging winds over 60 mph, and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

When Will the Severe Weather Get Here?

The storms will be arriving throughout the day. We could have showers all day with the heavy storms arriving in the Shreveport Bossier area after 5pm Monday. We could also have some strong storms during the overnight hours.

What Should You Do if Bad Weather Arrives?

The best thing to do is have a plan in place. We could lose power. If you have access to a generator, make sure it has gas and is ready to kick in. Try to put your vehicles in a garage or under a carport in case we get hail. Should a tornado happen tonight, be sure your family knows the safest place to shelter in your home. It should be a small interior room away from windows.
