Political analyst Scott Hughes talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the latest twists and turns in the Shreveport mayor's race, particularly rumors of a "deal" between Jim Taliaferro and Lee O. Savage.

Hughes tells KEEL listeners that he's not surprised that Mayor Ollie Tyler is currently polling substantially ahead of all four of her major challengers and that the the mayor is an odds on favorite to be one of two candidates to make December's runoff election.

Hughes also says "I don't know anything about a deal" between Republican candidates Jim Taliaferro and Lee O. Savage that calls for one candidate to withdraw and support the other. "You get two months into a race and you put your personal money in and your political career's on the line and nobody ever seems, at that point, to want to back out." But Hughes adds that a Republican candidates chances of making the runoff would be greatly enhanced in only one from the GOP is vying for votes.
